As Austin celebrates Pride this August, Austin FC is recognizing the Fighting Leslies, a longtime fan group named after one of the city’s most unforgettable local icons. 

Named after Leslie Cochran, whose unapologetic individuality and gender nonconformity became synonymous with Austin’s “Keep Austin Weird” spirit, the Fighting Leslies embrace the same values of authenticity, community and showing up as yourself.  

The group proudly raises both awareness and funds for local causes while bringing people together and having as much fun as possible along the way. 

“We love everyone,” says founder Todd “Aggie” Gardner. “We’ve taken the time to learn and to support local groups through awareness campaigns like Equality Texas with our Rainbow Leslie Pride shirts.” 

Continuing that commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community, the Fighting Leslies are launching a Pride Month fundraiser benefiting Equality Texas. The group will raffle 10 hand-painted 3D-printed Little Leslies, featuring both Pride Leslie and OG Stripes kits, with 100% of ticket sales donated in honor of Leslie Cochran.

Whether it’s welcoming new faces on matchday, supporting the local LGBTQIA+ community or simply creating a place where everyone belongs, the Fighting Leslies continue to reflect the inclusive culture that makes Austin special and weird, of course.

As Gardner puts it, anyone can join. “Do you like to have fun? Do you like soccer? Do you drink things? If you answer yes to the first question—you qualify.”
